 Selecting a Faculty Advisor
For your MAIS 600 Project / Thesis work you need to be matched up with Faculty Advisor who will provide oversight, counsel, supervision, collaboration, etc. for you as you work to complete the capstone project of your MAIS program.
There are two ways that your Faculty Advisor can be assigned to you. The first is for you to identify a Faculty Advisor who you feel has qualities, interests and background experience that you believe will be of assistance to you in your project work. To assist you in this identification process you can peruse the list of available faculty advisors online. Clicking on their names will load a pdf which will allow you to view their resume/bio, areas of stated interests, as well as their photo. You are welcome to contact them directly via email and correspond with them, introducing yourself and sharing with them what you are considering regarding your MAIS 600 Project / Thesis. They may even be able to provide some helpful suggestions to you even at this early stage. Contacting the Faculty Advisor does not obligate you to select them as your Faculty Advisor, it simply allows you to dialog with them in advance to determine if they would be a good match for you in this process. It is important that both the Faculty Advisor and you share mutual goals for your project work and feel comfortable in working together on it.
Once you have identified a Faculty Advisor from the list, contacted them and discussed your project with them you will need to ask their commitment to work with you on your project. Once you have received a commitment from a Faculty Advisor to work with you, you should then complete the "Approval Form for you Graduate Research Project in MAIS." This form is available on line as well as in materials from your MAIS 502 course instructor. Remember that you need to have an approved Thesis from Dr. Kim in order to sign on with an advisor.
If you do not wish to select / identify your own Faculty Advisor you may then simply check the area on the Approval Form for your Graduate Research Project in MAIS to indicate that you wish to have the MAIS department select a Faculty Advisory for you and then turn in the completed form into our office following the instructions on the form.
