Theatre Major Welcome

Concordia University, guided by the Great Commission of Christ Jesus and the Lutheran Confessions, empowers students through the liberal arts and professional studies for lives of learning, service and leadership. Concordia’s theatre department helps fulfill this mission by training students to integrate artistic excellence with a Christian world view and by producing theatrically exciting plays that reflect that world view. In doing so, we seek to provide learning opportunities in the fine arts for our students to present high quality entertainment to the people of Orange County.

Concordia serves approximately 2,300 students and is affiliated with the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. CUI offers a full theatre major, a theatre minor, a musical theatre minor and a theatre emphasis within our liberal studies major.

• Our facilities include a 180-seat flexible space studio theatre and an 800-seat amphitheatre for outdoor productions.
• Five major productions each year, plus two special events shows, are directed by faculty and senior undergraduates, and are crewed and performed by students.
• Each season includes musical theatre, as well as a balance of contemporary and classical comedy and drama.
• Auditions and tech positions open to all CUI students, faculty & staff.
• Resident Designer/Technical Director & staff mentor students in technical areas.
• Theatre professionals join the department to guest direct and design every season.
• Currently 20-30 theatre majors & minors working towards degrees in theatre. Scholarships available.
