About Concordia

As a leading liberal arts university, Concordia prides itself on the excellence and quality of our education. In fact:

  • U.S. News & World Report ranked Concordia University Irvine among the best regional liberal arts colleges in the west
  • U.S. News & World Report also describing us as a “Best Value” among these schools
  • 75% of our students landing a full-time job within 3 months of graduating

Yet we don’t simply train our students to become employees. Our goal is for every student to develop a wise mind, an honorable heart, and a cultivated character.

Developing a Wise Mind

At Concordia, we take a broader view of your education. As a liberal arts university, we focus on preparing you for your vocation— your calling in life—rather than simple job training. And as a Christian university, our faith is woven throughout the curriculum rather than relegated to a few subjects. We encourage a free interplay of ideas, where you’ll be involved and able to voice your opinions. In our small classes averaging 20 students or less, you’ll be able to fully participate. The faculty members will really get to know you—and with faculty as mentors, you’ll learn about research and educational opportunities for a richer experience.

We aim to accomplish this by teaching small classes where students have the opportunity to participate; with faculty who act as mentors; and by upholding a set of Christian values. Students here are family, not an institution. The friendliness of the campus and the personal involvement of the faculty engages students and helps them succeed.

Encouraging an Honorable Heart

On our campus, you can bring all of who you are—your beliefs and your intellect— into the conversation. We help you learn how to integrate your faith with your life. In our Christ-centered environment, you can develop a closer relationship with God on your own terms without required activities and mandates. And, through our long list of outreach activities, you’ll have many chances to serve others. Whether down the road from campus assisting victims of wildfires, or across the globe helping amputees in war-torn countries, you can bring your faith to life by sharing the human experience with those in need.

Fostering a Cultivated Character

One of the hallmarks of a cultivated, educated person is the ability to understand perspectives beside your own. Living on our campus, you’ll discover new viewpoints from those around you as you learn, play sports, join clubs, create art and make music together.

Southern California is a perfect location to expand your horizons. Sitting high on a hilltop with views for miles, the Concordia University Irvine campus offers a safe, secluded environment, although it’s right in the middle of Orange County. The campus is just six miles away from the ocean, and Disneyland is so close you can see the fireworks every night. The beauty of the setting and the nearby access to academic and entertainment opportunities are unsurpassed.

Our Mission

Concordia University Irvine, guided by the Great Commission of Christ Jesus and the Lutheran Confessions, empowers students through the liberal arts and professional studies for lives of learning, service and leadership.
