Services for Students

The ministry of Student Services is to collaborate and provide programs of excellence that develop and support academic, social, emotional, spiritual, physical, and professional growth for a diverse student population. Concordia's student service staff is very intentional in its planning to make sure it provides opportunities for student growth and development. The development theory adopted by Student Services seeks to promote growth in seven domains:

Developing competence: Concordia students need to develop skill and confidence in intellectual, physical and interpersonal abilities.

Managing emotions: Self-expression and self-control must be brought into balance to provide a way for Concordia students to use positive and negative emotions.

Moving though autonomy toward interdependence: The Concordia Student needs to become self-motivated and self-directed; to have inner direction with the mobility and persistence to reach desired goals; to be his/her own person while recognizing connectedness to others.

Developing mature interpersonal relationships: The Concordia student needs to develop increased tolerance and acceptance of others, increasing in her or his capacity for mature intimate relationships.

Establishing identity: Students need to attain an accurate, realistic picture of themselves and develop a core sense of self that lets them feel capable, familiar and worthwhile.

Developing purpose: Students find a coherent direction for their life as their sense of identity is integrated with interests, educational and career options and Christian lifestyle preferences.

Developing integrity: Students need to define a set of consistent, personalized Christian values to guide actions that include an emphasis on Christian social responsibility.
